Christmas gobbledygook competition

Create some Christmas gobbledygook and win!

Instead of asking you to translate some gobbledygook into plain English, we thought we'd reverse the challenge! Turn this last verse of the popular New Zealand Christmas song into legal or bureaucratic gobbledygook and win!

On the twelfth day of Christmas...

We'll judge the best entry and send the winner a copy of the Oxford Guide to Plain English and the Write Style Guide for New Zealanders. And of course we'll share the winning entry with our WriteNews recipients.

Send your entries to Lucy@write.co.nz by midday Wednesday 21 December

Gut instinct plays a big part in decision-making

In our last online survey we asked: 'When you submit a proposal or a business case, what part do you think emotion and logic play in the mind of the decision-maker?'.

Unsurprisingly logic was seen as more influential than emotion. But respondents believe decision-making is at least 40% emotional.

Our research and experience tells us it is even higher than that.

User-testing seminar series a hit!

Thanks to all those who attended our recent user-testing seminars. Our room was packed to capacity for both events!

The Mark Twain quote we referred to says it all,  'Supposing is good. But finding out is better'.

If you'd like to find out how you can improve one of your high-use documents, you need to ask the people who use them — your readers. Of course we'd love to help.

Workplace Savings Communication Awards

Congratulations to the winners of the 2011 Workplace Savings Communication Awards. Our Chief Executive, Lynda Harris, was one of the judges. Not many people enjoy being immersed in annual reports and investment statements, but Lynda relished judging their clarity.
